You feel it through the lead. Your dog spots another dog across the road, throws their weight forward, and all of it lands on a narrow strip of webbing around their throat. Then the walk turns into a downpour, the trail up to the reservoir is half mud, and whatever they were wearing comes home soaked.

Doggu started as a small studio in Bangkok, near ICONSIAM, hand-painting charms for pet owners who wanted their dog's gear to look like it belonged to somebody. Sport Club is that same eye applied to hardware you actually use every day.

A harness moves that load off the throat and spreads it across the chest and shoulders, where your dog is built to carry it. For a pug, a French bulldog or any flat-faced breed that already works hard to breathe, that difference is not cosmetic. For a puppy still learning not to pull, it means the lesson doesn't come with a jolt to the windpipe.

The webbing is coated, so water sits on the surface instead of soaking in. When your dog comes back from Shek O caked in wet sand, you hold the harness under the tap for ten seconds and the sand goes. There's no soak, no wash cycle, no waiting for it to stop smelling like a wet towel.

It dries fast enough to matter. In Hong Kong's summer humidity a nylon harness can stay damp under the chest all afternoon, which is exactly where a thick coat traps it and skin trouble starts. This one is dry by the time you've towelled your dog off, so it goes straight back on.

The build is a simple Y-front over the chest with a strap running down the spine to the girth. Both the neck and the girth adjust, so you fit the harness to your dog rather than to an average dog, and the two doggu side-release buckles open with one hand while your other hand is holding a lead and a poo bag. The D-ring sits on the back, at the junction of the two straps, so the lead stays clear of the front legs. Every harness carries the round cream Sport Club crest, moulded in rubber and sitting flat on the spine strap.

The matching leash runs 150 cm in the same coated webbing, with a matte zinc alloy snap hook that won't seize up after a wet walk. Its length adjusts, so you can shorten it crossing a busy street in Central and let it out again on the promenade, or wear it across your body or around your waist when you want both hands free. Each leash carries its own themed sport patch rather than the crest.

Pink is the tennis club, soft rose webbing against pale lime buckles and a deep green ring. Green is the golf club, a deeper course green with mint hardware and a lime ring. Blue is the bowling lane, sky-blue webbing with butter-yellow buckles and coral rings. Each harness wears the round cream Sport Club crest down the spine, while the leashes carry the themed patches: a hand-drawn "see you on the court" on the pink, and "Lucky Strike!" with the pins going down on the blue.
